In the words of a graduate

Hello, my name is Austin Wang, and I graduated from CBA in 2014. Through God’s and CBA’s guidance, combined with my input of hard work and diligence, I was accepted into universities such as UC Berkeley, Purdue University, and the University of Washington. I finally entered college with a major in Civil Engineering (and graduated this year with my undergraduate degree).

I was very blessed during my time in college as I got the opportunity to lead an engineering design team called “Concrete Canoe”. As Team Captain for this project, I oversaw the design and construction of a 20-foot long concrete boat, reinforced with carbon fiber mesh, and we competed against 18 other colleges and universities.

The Oral Presentation section was especially important as my team had to effectively communicate and answer questions regarding our design process. During the Canoe Races, the pressure was enormous – around 1500 people watched – cheering for their own teams. My team’s rowers stayed focused and we took home 4th place in the Sprint Races out of 18 other schools. I thank God for giving me this impactful experience to learn, grow, and develop as an effective leader.

CBA gave me a good foundation. They taught me to use the strength and diligence given from God in order to face the challenges of college and life beyond school. I treated my Concrete Canoe teammates with respect and kindness according to Romans 12. I also joined a youth ministry called ICA (In Christ Alone), with whom I am still fellowshipping to this day. Staying rooted in Christ has given me the strength to survive, and even thrive, in college.

My future plans include going to graduate school at UCLA for Structural Engineering. My goal is to eventually work for an engineering design firm to help construct the nation’s transportation infrastructure that is needed today. I didn’t achieve all of this alone, as I had God, the CBA staff, and my friends and family help me along the way.

I encourage you all to respect and listen to your teachers and parents, as they want what’s best for you to succeed in the upcoming challenges ahead of you. Be confident in Christ, improve your oral communication skills, and remember to “Refuse to Lose” and “Never Give Up”! Thank you for your time and God Bless You!
